Crysis 3 allows players more freedom than predecessor
Crysis 3 will offer players more freedom than they were allowed in Crysis 2.
The second game in the series was criticised for being linear as it was set in a city environment, as opposed to the wide-open island setting of Crysis 1.
Game producer, Michael Read, believes the freedom element was still there in Crysis 2 but it was presented to players in a different way.
"Crysis 1 and 2 were different extremes and each with their own merits and faults," he told OPM. "I still believe that some of the 'linear' comments we get regarding Crysis 2 have to do more with the visuals that people were presented with in the game using a closed off space like NYC urban grid.
"The freedom element was still there to some extent, but presented in a different way."
Read claims that Crysis 3 will strike a solid middle ground between the first two games.
"We really have a solid middle ground between the two games that allows the player to approach challenges in dynamic ways while still keeping them focused on the endgame goals.
"The ability to replay the action sequences in different ways really added a lot while still keeping the player focused on a goal."
He adds that the environments are a big change as they have taken the best bits from the first two games and built on them.
"The environments are definitely one of the biggest changes. We were really able to identify a lot of the merits from the first two games in terms of the environment and capitalise on those for Crysis 3.
"The mix between broken down urban, lush rainforest and more open spaces only helps reinforce this experience."
Crysis 3 is set to launch February 2013.
