Square Enix signs Unreal Engine 4 deal
Square Enix has announced a long-term licensing agreement with Epic Games for the rights to develop games using Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Engine 4.
The agreement will also ensure that Square Enix will be given local support from Epic Games Japan.
Territory manager of Epic Games Japan, Taka Kawasaki, said: "Epic has a strong relationship with Square Enix, and it's an honour to provide their creative and technical talent with the best game technology available for licensing.
"We look forward to supporting their developers with world-class tools for years to come."
Square Enix has previously used its own engines to power games. Earlier this year it was revealed that the studio will develop its own next-generation engine.
