Star Citizen sets crowd funding record for a game
Space simulator Star Citizen has hit a record breaking $6.23million USD in crowd funding.
The previous record for money raised for a crowd-funded game was $4.16million USD for Project Eternity.
The PC title is being overseen by Chris Roberts, who has worked on several successful franchises in the past such as Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer.
"I am absolutely elated by the incredible outpouring of support for this project," he said.
"It's clear that space sim fans have just been waiting for a game like ours to come along and rekindle some of the excitement that's been missing from PC games and the space sim genre.
"With the resources that our fans have provided, it means the team will be able to provide more features in Star Citizen and deliver an even better game."
The money was raised on Kickstarter and on Roberts' own website.
Those looking forward to the release of Star Citizen will have to wait until a scheduled release of November 2014.
