PS4 will run pre-owned games
Yesterday we reported the next generation PlayStation (codenamed Orbis apparently) will not allow gamers to play pre-owned games.
A new report from GamesIndustry suggests otherwise, and infamous Michael Pachter from Wedbush Securities has said the "reliable source is a monkey."
Sony had considered including the technology back in 2005 for the PS3, and Ken Kutaragi had patented the technology before launching the system, said Pachter to NowGamer.
"Today’s rumor is just a re-hash of that old rumor and the recent one about the Xbox 720," he said in a statement.
"It isn’t really in Sony’s or Microsoft’s best interests to block used games," Pachter added saying that it would lead to "consumer backlash" and a loss of market share. In addition to this, retailers could even refuse to stock the new console as a result.
"If Sony unilaterally did this, I could see GameStop refusing to carry their console, and sales of the PS4 would thereby suffer," he continues.
"On balance, it’s a dumb idea, making it a dumb rumor. Of course, you never know."
