Square Enix Luminous Engine to be exclusively in-house

The next-generation Luminous Engine from Square Enix will not be made available to third parties.

The Luminous Engine was revealed at E3 last year with impressively realistic screenshots of character models.

Square Enix CEO, Mike Fischer, said that the engine will only be available for in-house studios and won't be licensed to third parties.

"This is an in-house tool," Fischer told ShackNews. "We're not building this around a licensing model."

The Luminous Engine will however be available to studios that sign publishing deals with Square Enix.

"It's my hope that this makes teams and creative people around the world excited to work for us because they'll get their hands on some of the best technology in the industry," he added.

The first Luminous Engine footage was of a new Final Fantasy game with the name Agni's Philosophy.
