Futuristic GTA could happen one day
A sci-fi Grand Theft Auto could be possible one day, according to RockStar Games vice president Dan Houser.
So far all GTA games have been set in the present or in the past, but none have taken place in an advanced age.
Houser believes that a futuristic setting is possible as long as there is a good story to tell.
"We will do it the very second we have an idea," Houser told Ecrans when asked about a sci-fi GTA.
"One of our strengths is the consistency of the game world. We're not necessarily the best writers in the world, but we know how to write a video game."
Houser pointed to the immensely successful Red Dead Redemption as an example of when a different setting could be used to tell a story.
"When we decided to make a Western, it was because we knew we had something to say.
"We have no interest in going into science fiction for the sake of flying cars and laser guns. The best science fiction stories are those that speak about the human condition.
So while this idea is very tempting and, by definition, anything is possible in a video game, we lack the essential thing for the moment: a good reason."
