Update - Aliens: CM mainly developed by Gearbox
***UPDATE***
Sega of America senior producer, Matthew J. Powers, has revealed that TimeGate Studios wasn't the main developer for Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Powers was responding to rumours spread by a former Gearbox employee, who stated that TimeGate Studios did most of the work and Gearbox was only handling the multiplayer.
"Absolutely not, the game has been developed by Gearbox Software," Powers told Playnews. "Other studios [like TimeGate] helped Gearbox on the production of single and multiplayer."
=========================
The majority of development for Aliens: Colonial Marines was outsourced to little-known TimeGate Studios, according to an ex-Gearbox employee.
Comments from the former developer reveal that Gearbox only worked on the multiplayer side of the game.
Apparently the rest of the work was done by TimeGate, who previously worked on console shooter Section 8: Prejudice.
"Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines," wrote the developer last year. "I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total wreck, going on what, six years now?
"Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past."
Demiurge Studios and Nerve Software have also been involved in the long development process.
