Vita sales quadruple in Japan
Sony has claimed that sales of the PlayStation Vita have quadrupled in Japan due to a recent price cut.
The handheld has had a hard time since launching last year, with sales figures continuously behind those of its main rival, the Nintendo 3DS.
However according to Gematsu, Sony's Hiroshi Kawano claimed yesterday that the Vita is selling roughly four times as many units as it did prior to the price drop.
Consumers are reacting positively to both the Wi-Fi and 3G models retailing at 19,980 yen (£139 GBP), down from 24,980 yen (£174 GBP) and 29,980 yen (£208 GBP) respectively.
Official sales figures should be released in the next few days to give us a better idea of how well the Vita is performing.
The price cut is not currently planned for regions other than Japan, although Sony might be tempted if sales continue to disappoint.
