EA staff cut as publisher focuses on next-gen, mobile

EA has confirmed that a number of staff have been cut from its Montreal-based studio.

Sources close to the matter indicated that around 200-250 staff members had been cut, but EA said those estimates were too high.

However EA did confirm that the Montreal studio would be switching focus to next-generation and mobile gaming.

"EA Is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile," an EA spokesperson told Gamasutra.

"In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organisation.

"Streamlining our operations will help ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world."

This isn't the first time that EA has made employees redundant this year. In February a number of cuts were made to studios in Los Angeles and Montreal.
