Ubisoft CEO: Consumers ready for always-online
Consumers will be ready if next-generation consoles have an always-online future, according to Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat.
The next Xbox has yet to be announced by Microsoft, but many rumours are pointing towards the console having to be constantly connected to the internet to work.
Many players are upset at the possibility, but Mallat believes the audience is ready.
"I would say that a lot of other people are already always online through other devices - I would suspect that the audience is ready," he told The Guardian.
Mallat said in order for it to be successful, the platform holders will have to state exactly why an always online future is better for everyone.
"And I agree, these services need to provide clear benefits. It's important to be able to provide direct connections between us and our consumers, whether that's extra content or online services, a lot of successful games have that."
Microsoft is expected to announce the next Xbox at an event on 21 May.
