Call of Duty: Ghosts officially revealed

Activision has officially revealed the next installment in the COD franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The new title is set for a 5 November launch for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and it'll launch on the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox. 

Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward is in charge of development, and the game will run on a brand new engine designed to get the best out the next-generation hardware.

"Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do," said Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin. "But we're not resting on our laurels.

"We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."

Gameplay footage for Call of Duty: Ghosts will be shown for the first time at the Xbox reveal event on 21 May.

Call of Duty: Ghosts was first leaked last week when UK retailer Tesco listed the game on its website.

The listing was quickly taken down before Activision launched a teaser site for the new game earlier this week.
