Halo: Spartan Assault revealed

Microsoft has announced top-down shooter Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows 8 devices.

The game has been co-developed by Halo 4 studio 343 Industries and Gatling Gears maker Vanguard Games, and it's due to launch in July.

Spartan Assault will be available on any device running Windows 8, including tablets, phones and PCs.

Progress is also saved across multiple platforms, so you can play on a tablet and then pick up right where you left off on your phone.

The Spartan Assault story is set between Halo 3 and Halo 4, and it focuses on Commander Sarah Palmer and her rise from ODST to Spartan.

There are 25 missions in total, and the campaign should take around two hours to work through.
