Sony CEO: "We just want to give the consumer flexibility"
Sony is interested in giving players a flexible environment regarding used games, according to Sony CEO Jack Tretton.
Yesterday the company revealed that the PlayStation 4 wouldn't block used games, and there'd be no fees to pay if you wanted to borrow a game from a friend.
Tretton said it was important to build a console that was as gamer friendly as possible.
"If you think about the consumer first then you create a consumer facing business model, and that's going to be the key," Tretton told GameTrailers.
"Obviously used games have been under threat for a long time but if the consumer pays X amount of dollars for a game, and they don't have the flexibility to get some additonal value out of it, it changes the way they percieve the value of the game and it takes dollars out of their pockets to buy new games.
"If you talk to the folks at GameStop they'll tell you that used games are very additive to the business. We just want to give the consumer flexibility."
