Google reportedly working on a games console

Google is building a videogame console powered by Android, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The report claims that people familiar with the matter have disclosed Google's plans to develop a console and a wristwatch that can stream media.

Apparently the plans were made in anticipation of products Apple may release in the future.

A second version of media-streaming device the Nexus Q is also planned, with at least one of the products going on sale at the end of the year.

Furthermore, a source claimed that Google has been keeping a close eye on the Ouya, the Android console that launched earlier this week.

The success of the Ouya and how its received around the world will likely go some way to determining how Google approaches its own console.

If Google was to launch a games console this year it would face stern competition from the likes of Sony and Microsoft, who already have players excited about next-gen gaming with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
