World of Warcraft might get microtransactions
Blizzard has said that World of Warcraft might have microtransactions added in the future.
Over the past few days players have noticed a new item on the Public Test Realm called the Enduring Elixir of Wisdom, which increases experience gained from killing monsters by 100%.
Community manager Zarhym took to the Battle.net forum to explain the reasoning behind the "in-game store" item.
"We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game," he said.
"As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We'll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses."
Players remain concerned that microtransactions could simply turn the game into pay-to-win, an unwanted feature when the game already requires a subscription to play.
