Next-gen Tomb Raider sequel confirmed
Square Enix has confirmed that a next-generation sequel to this year's Tomb Raider reboot is in development.
The news was announced by the publisher's US and Europe CEO Phil Rogers, who claimed in an open letter that work on the game has already started.
"Square Enix is in production with a number of next-generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year's E3, and Thief coming in 2014," he wrote.
"I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel - something you may have heard about recently!"
Darrell Gallagher, head of product development and studios at Square Enix, said that while he couldn't reveal any details on the next Tomb Raider, fans should rest assured that work is being done to raise the bar.
"We're very excited to confirm that the team has started working on telling the next chapter in Lara's tale," he added.
"It's still early days, so I'm afraid I can't provide any further details for now save my assurance that we're not resting on our laurels and acclaim from Tomb Raider's recent successes, but working hard to raise the bar even higher and re-affirm the faith you've shown."
We'll bring you more on the next-gen Tomb Raider as soon as we hear it.
