Xbox 360 to be supported for "years"

Microsoft has claimed that the Xbox 360 will continue to be supported with new content for "years" to come.

When a new console generation kicks off there are always fears that platform holders will forget about their old hardware to focus fully on what's new.

However vice president of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer said that those fears are unfounded.

"Years," he told OXM when asked how much longer Microsoft would support the Xbox 360. "Last generation was different for us, we moved pretty quickly.

"This time, you will see us staying committed to the Xbox 360.

"I think it's a great platform. In certain areas, like trying to switch apps quickly, it shows that it was built in a different era, but in terms of the price point, the content library - I don't have the stats, but I bet it's the largest content library every created in the history of the game space."

Spencer said that more games would still be heading to the console.

"It's something we'll remain committed to on the content side as well as the platform itself," he added.
