EA Sports UFC submission system detailed
EA Sports UFC will include a submission system with stage-based strategic battles, according to creative director Brian Hayes.
The ground game is a key part of MMA but replicating the technicalities of the sport have always been hard for studios to achieve.
Hayes insists that the new submission system will be more realistic and lifelike, and players will have to battle to achieve better positions on the ground.
"There's a totally new system in place," Hayes told ArabicGamers. "It's a work in progress right now so I can't speak about the specifics of what the controls are.
"But fundamentally the thing we realised about every other approach to the submission game in mixed martial arts games was, 'I'm going to press an input', and then you already advance to essentially the final stage of any submission.
"If it's an arm bar you're already in the position where you've got your legs over the guy and the arm is fully extended, and then it's some game of, 'Are you going to tap him out or not?'
"We want to bring a more stage-based strategic battle between the offensive fighter and the defensive fighter to life so it's about, 'Is he going to let me put my legs over him?' or, 'Am I going to be able to break that grip and extend that arm?'"
Hayes claimed two fighters would go through a mini-battle to determine who came out on top.
"Before you get to that final position there's going to be several stages where the offensive and defensive fighter battle to see if they can get there."
EA Sports UFC launches next year, and we'll be bringing you much more on the fighter within the coming weeks.
