Battlefield 4 visuals due to Frostbite 3 instead of next-gen
The superb visuals and effects in Battlefield 4 have more to do with the Frostbite 3 engine instead of next-generation horsepower, according to DICE executive producer Patrick Bach.
The upcoming shooter will feature of range of new ideas and features, such as battles on the water where players have to make strategic use of the waves.
However Bach said the ability to create ideas such as this was more down to the Frostbite 3 engine instead of the added power of next-gen consoles.
"Yes, absolutely," Bach told ArabicGamers when asked if these new experiences could be done on current-gen systems.
"This has very little to do with the actual consoles or the actual horsepower. This is more from a Frostbite 3 perspective, where this technology had to be written from scratch.
"We couldn't really steal it from anyone or even steal the idea from anyone. We just had to make it ourselves, and thus creating something that is scalable on all platforms."
Bach claimed that the best-looking versions of Battlefield 4 would be next-gen, but players could still be happy with current-gen versions.
"It won't look as good on the current-gen platforms as it will on the next-gen or PC version of the game, but in general it's the same core gameplay."
