The Crew dev: Always-online is the future
Creating open world console games that require a constant connection to the internet are the future, according to The Crew's creative director Julian Gerighty.
The Crew is an MMO focused around cars and a massive open world that's based on a map of the United States.
Players are required to be online to play, but Gerighty doesn't see that as a problem, referring to it as "the future".
"This is an online world so we need a connection, it's just an MMO," he told ArabicGamers.
"When Blizzard announced World of Warcraft nobody complained about having to be online all the time.
"And I think, I genuinely think it's the future."
Gerighty claimed that consoles were just catching up with PCs when it came to online gaming.
"I think it's what this generation of consoles is doing, catching up with what PCs have been doing for a long time.
"Steam, always online - that's great. We should be focusing on the advantages it brings instead of thinking it's a piracy check measure because that's not why we're doing it.
"It really is for this living, breathing world."
The Crew launches early 2014 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
