Thief has something for fans old and new

Upcoming adventure game Thief will have something for old and new fans of the franchise, according to narrative director Steven Gallagher.

Gallagher claims that the team at Eidos Montreal wanted to tell a new story, but something that still retained some of the Thief magic from the original games.

"At the beginning of concept we went straight back to the old games, of course we played them all," he told ArabicGamers. "We wanted to take them and see what lies at the essence of a Thief game.

"That's why Garrett is still here, the archetype of that character is very compelling for the team. This selfish, independent guy, the arrogance... We need that kind of character.

"But after we played the games we knew quite early on that we wanted to tell a new story. The new Thief, new Garrett, new story, standalone."

Gallagher wanted to assure old Thief fans that there would still be plenty for them here.

"So even though the old fans, they have a huge love for it - we do, we have a huge love for the original games - but they already exist.

"So telling a new story gives us the opportunity to say, 'You know what, there's an essence of what you love here, you'll feel at home, but it's a new story and it's awesome!'

"So if anything, if you can remember that they're separate, we're just giving you the opportunity to fall in love with Garrett all over again basically."

Thief launches in 2014 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
