You can't get sick of Assassin's Creed history, claims writer
There is "no way to get sick" of the different historical settings used in Assassin's Creed games, according to lead writer Darby McDevitt.
The Assassin's Creed series has faced some criticism recently for having too many games released in a short period of time.
McDevitt understands the concerns but claims that as long as there are new settings to explore and new history to uncover then players will keep coming back.
"There's always a danger if you come out with a game series annually that people could get overburdened with what we're offering," he told ArabicGamers.
"The goal that we've set for ourselves, especially with this game, we were always going to take the Assassins/Templar conflict that we have, but we really want to add a fresh layer, a fresh reason to play every single time.
"There really is no way to get sick of this historical tourism that we do. If we come out with a new amazing set of cities every year I think that part will be fresh always."
McDevitt said that new gameplay features also had to be added to make sure Assassin's Creed didn't grow stale.
"But the goal is to also bring a layer of gameplay that justifies this release schedule.
"And with Black Flag that was our main goal two years ago when we started conceptualising this game.
"We said, 'Let's take the golden age of piracy, let's make a complete pirate layer and not only bring the time period to life but the activities to life'.
"So I think what you'll see in the coming years is a commitment to making each game feel very, very necessary and very, very fresh.
"That will combat any perception of fatigue. That newness will help alleviate that."
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag launches later this year on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
