Microsoft exec hopeful for Gears of War on Xbox One

Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer is hopeful of seeing a new Gears of War game on the Xbox One.

Gears of War was a key series for the Xbox 360, selling millions of copies and becoming a fan favourite franchise over the years.

No Gears of War news has been revealed for the Xbox One however, with Spencer saying that the decision is up to developer Epic Games.

"Gears of War is developed by Epic Games and they've been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360," he told Famitsu.

"You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do.

"We haven't announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However there's nothing more I can tell you at this time."

Several key members of Epic Games have left the company recently, including game design director Cliff Bleszinski, senior producer Chris Wynn and Gears of War director of production Rod Fergusson.

The last game in the series, Gears of War: Judgment, was handled by Epic Games and Polish studio People Can Fly.
