Black Ops 2 could be in breach of Infinity Ward contract
Treyarch, developers of Call of Duty: Black Ops and various others before, could be in breach of a contractual agreement with Infinity Ward and Activision, reports have claimed.
The breach of contract comes as the Infinity Ward Memorandum of Understanding states that Activision will retain the Call of Duty games except those set in "modern day (post Vietnam), the near or distant future". What this means is that any other studio working for or owned by Activision would not be allowed to create any games which would compromise Infinity Ward's Call of Duty offerings.
The Memorandum of Understanding was also signed before Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West were fired for allegedly holding private discussions with EA. Activision still owns Infinity Ward, so it's unlikely it would take its own studios to sue itself.
Activision has refused to comment and we've put the question to Treyarch, we'll see what we get back.
