Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will feature a plot that might include a few inconsistencies, according to series creator Hideo Kojima.

The Metal Gear games are renowned for their intricate stories and detailed characters, but even Kojima admits that it's hard to keep track of it all.

The Phantom Pain is set after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3 but before the original Metal Gear Solid, so there might be some pieces that don't fit together.

"I'm pretty sure that the guys at Star Wars had the same issues," Kojima told Kotaku at a Sony press event.

"When you try to write something that was supposed to be in the middle there will be some inconsistencies when you go into very small details."

However Kojima claims that the gameplay is the all-important aspect.

"The most important part is writing something that is fun, something that is impressive, something that is better than it was before," he added.

"So sometimes in the interest of doing this, of having a better experience, we sacrifice some consistencies in the story.

"I hope the fans and players understand this, but I need to write the best we can, even if there are some small discrepancies."

Prologue to The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, will launch spring 2014.
