1 million PS4s sold in 24 hours

Sony has confirmed that 1 million PlayStation 4's were sold just 24 hours after the console was released in North America.

That sets a new sales record for a PlayStation console.

"PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal," said Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House.

Sony is now looking forward to 29 November, when the PS4 will be made available in Europe and Latin America.

"Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on 29 November," added House.

"We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."

Sony is hoping to sell 5 million PlayStation 4 consoles by 31 March 2014.
