Telltale developing Borderlands and Game of Thrones spin-offs
Telltale Games announced two huge pieces of news over the weekend, confirming that its working on spin-offs for Borderlands and Game of Thrones.
Tales from the Borderlands was revealed first, an episodic title that will take place in Pandora and have players building relationships with existing characters.
"You get to shoot stuff, but in a different way. In a Telltale way," said studio president Kevin Bruner.
Bruner also noted that Tales from the Borderlands would play like a Telltale game, so players will be expected to make tough decisions and it'll likely be heavily focused on dialogue.
Gearbox president Randy Pitchford was particularly excited about the project - due to launch in 2014 - and he had a lot of nice things to say about Telltale.
"Telltale makes in my opinion the best storytelling games in the world," he claimed.
"One of the main things about Pandora and the Borderlands universe is that it's a rich place. There's a lot of things you can do. Rather than fit in with one of our storylines we wanted to give [Telltale] the keys to the kingdom."
The episodic Game of Thrones spin-off was announced later on, also set for a 2014 launch.
Details on characters and setting are being kept under wraps for now, while Telltale states that development is in the very early stages.
Telltale Games will be one of the busiest studios in gaming next year, with The Walking Dead: Season Two and The Wolf Among Us being released among these two newly announced titles.
