Xbox getting original TV shows in early 2014

Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will get original TV shows in early 2014.

The company's TV executive, Nancy Tellem, said that programs will be released onto Xbox Live "in the first quarter, minimum second quarter".

Microsoft has plenty of plans for original TV content for Xbox but so far all we know is that there's a Halo TV show in production, with Steven Spielberg producing.

Tellem claimed that it was hard to get Hollywood's backing for original content as Microsoft try to explain what the Xbox One can offer.

"We aren't Netflix, we aren't Amazon, we're a different animal," she told Variety.

"We're neither or we're a little like them. It all depends. The lack of black and white and this is the template and this is what we're following is very difficult. As we continue to do deals everyone's going to get more comfortable.

"Depending on the piece of content, the deals change. We're talking about exclusives, exclusive first windows, exclusive second windows."
