Next-gen Hitman reportedly scrapped

A next-generation Hitman title in development at Square Enix Montreal has reportedly been cancelled, according to the CV of one of the game's designers.

The LinkedIn profile of senior game designer Richard Knight appears to confirm that the game was cancelled as early as last year.

Midway through 2013, Square Enix announced that the studio would instead be focusing on mobile titles, but the fate of a next-gen Hitman remained a mystery.

Now it appears as if it will never see the light of day, with Square Enix Montreal instead working on a Hitman game for iOS and Android devices.

Hitman fans shouldn't be too down, though, as franchise creators IO Interactive are apparently working on "the future vision for the Hitman franchise".

The game has yet to be formally revealed but Square has previously confirmed that IO is "in pre-production on a new AAA Hitman project".
