Thief dev: We don't want to tell players how to play
Upcoming Thief won't force you to play the game in any particular way, according to two of the game's developers.
Stealth titles can often be seen as too hardcore for big audiences as they involve a lot of watching and waiting, without too much action.
However lead level designer Daniel Windfield Schmidt said Eidos Montreal wanted to give players a choice on how they want to play.
"Some players like getting lost and finding their own way," he told ArabicGamers. "Some players hate it. We give you the option, which one are you?
"We're not going to tell you, we don't want to judge the players. We said if you want to shoot everybody and spend all your resources doing that, that's your call. It's going to cost resources and it's not going to be easy, but it's your choice.
"Then for the players who are the specific ones, going in and forcing themselves to follow the role, it makes it pure stealth if that's what you're after."
Art director Nicolas Cantin also claimed that more explosive action sequences have been added in from time to time to break up the hardcore stealth.
"It's also why we add some pacing, some elements that change the pacing," he said. "Because we know that being crouched for nine hours is tough to sell.
"Those little elements that allow us to add to the variety of the game were really important, but overall we are really respecting the Thief fantasy and who Garrett is."
Thief is launching at the end of this week. Check back later today to read our review.
