The Xbox One is fully capable of supporting games to run at 1080p and 60 frames per second, according to Microsoft UK boss Harvey Eagle.

PlayStation 4 versions of third-party games have often come out looking better compared to their Xbox One versions.

However Eagle said that the Xbox One isn't underpowered at all, and it's up to the developers to make sure games come out looking their best.

"It's up to individual developers to determine what is the best balance in order to deliver the best experience to gamers," he told The Guardian.

"No longer can you measure or talk about power in terms of pixels and polygon counts. Performance in this era comes from three areas: hardware, software and the cloud.

The cloud is one of the ways Microsoft is trying to improve multiplayer games, by offering dedicated servers that let them run smoother without interruptions.

"We're committed to allowing developers getting the maximum out of the investment that we've made," he added.

"We said at launch that we'd built a server farm of 300,000 dedicated servers to support multiplayer games - it would be foolish of us not to work with developers to ensure they get the maximum from that power."
