PlayStation 4 sales hit 6 million

Sony has confirmed that over 6 million PlayStation 4 consoles have now been sold after the hardware launched in Japan last month.

370,000 units were sold in Japan, and so far over 13.7 million PS4 games have been sold around the world.

"I am absolutely delighted that PS4 is off to such a great start in Japan," said Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House.

"The responses we have received for the PS4 system's integrated social capabilities have been phenomenal, and I couldn't be more thrilled that gamers are utilising these unique features to engage, share, play and connect with users around the world."

Over 100 million "Shares" have been captured, while 3.6 million gameplay broadcasts have been streamed from PS4 consoles to Twitch and Ustream.

The figures are a massive achievement for Sony, who had originally targeted 5 million PS4 sales by the end of March.
