First Tales from the Borderlands details emerge

Telltale Games has revealed the first details for Tales from the Borderlands, detailing the two playable protagonists and their abilities.

Studio co-founder Kevin Bruner and the game's lead designer Harrison Pink confirmed the information at a SXSW panel in Texas.

You'll be taking control of Fiona and Rhys, the two characters who made an appearance in the announcement trailer.

Fiona is a con-artist and Rhys is a cybernetically-enhanced Hyperion employee, while they both have their own unique skills.

Fiona can use her powers of persuasion to talk her way into advantageous positions, and Rhys' robotic arm can hack electronic equipment.

There will also be appearances from well-known characters in the Borderlands universe, such as Marcus the arms dealer.

The game is played from the perspective of the characters recalling their adventures, so there is room for exaggeration.

"You never really play what actually happened, you're playing this Big Fish version of what happened," said Bruner.

Harrison said that Tales from the Borderlands will offer you tough decisions to make just like The Walking Dead, but the whole experience won't be quite as traumatic.

There will also be shooting sections in the game, but they'll be done "in a Telltale kind of way".

"It's a Borderlands game, there have to be crazy stuff going on," explained Bruner.

"We got better between Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, and I think we'll get better as we move into Borderlands, because you have to have crazy, over-the-top action scenes, or it's not a Borderlands game."

Tales from the Borderlands will launch later in 2014.
