Minecraft on Oculus Rift cancelled due to Facebook deal
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson is refusing to put his game on the Oculus Rift due to the VR company's acquisition by Facebook.
Persson used Twitter to air his thoughts on the deal, where he claimed Facebook "creeps me out" and any agreement between the two parties was now cancelled.
"We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus," he wrote. "I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out."
Notch clarified his position further in his personal blog, stating that Facebook doesn't have the best history when it comes to being a stable platform.
"I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook," he added.
"Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven't historically been a stable platform. There's nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me.
"I did not chip in ten grand to seed a first investment round to build value for a Facebook acquisition."
Notch explained that he doesn't have any hard feelings and he understands this is a part of business.
"I have the greatest respect for the talented engineers and developers at Oculus. It's been a long time since I met a more dedicated and talented group of people.
"I understand this is purely a business deal, and I'd like to congratulate both Facebook and the Oculus owners. But this is where we part ways."
Notch said he still wants to be part of the VR movement, but that will just see him working with other companies instead.
