YouTube to acquire Twitch for $1billion USD

Sources claim that YouTube is getting set to purchase video game streaming company Twitch for over $1billion USD.

Variety has heard from people close to the matter that the Google subsidiary is extremely interested in Twitch and an announcement could be made shortly.

The popularity of Twitch has exploded recently, with even Sony and Microsoft adding Twitch streaming apps to the PS4 and Xbox One.

Twitch only launched in June 2011, but as of May last of year it claimed a monthly viewership of over 34 million users.
