Xbox One sales nearly double in US, PS4 still rules

Xbox One sales rose so high in the US over August that they nearly doubled the number of consoles sold in July.

Microsoft has been launching a lot of new initiatives to boost sales of the Xbox One, including a Kinect-less console, a Madden NFL 15 bundle and a 'Buy a Console Get a Free Game' promotion.

The offers have been successful, however according to NPD the PlayStation 4 is still coming out on top.

The PS4 tops the US hardware chart for the eight consecutive month, with the PS4 version of NHL 15 leading the software chart.

Microsoft will be happy with the numbers, and hopeful that an upcoming release of exclusives including Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 will push sales even further.

The Xbox One recently launched in the Middle East.
