Why Gaijin chose PS4 and not Xbox One
Alexander Trifonov, head of PR at War Thunder developer and publisher Gaijin Entertainment, has outlined why the company chose to go with the PlayStation as their free-to-play platform, rather than with Xbox.
In an interview with ArabicGamers at Game Connection Europe 14 in Paris, Trifonov explained that Sony had been a lot more supportive than Microsoft.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from our console players. Most of them aren’t accustomed to games like War Thunder, they’ve never played free-to-play games before or online games for that matter.”
But, according to Trifonov, the fact the game is fully cross-platform compatible and consistent irrespective of platfrom is a huge advantage.
“A lot of our players are very surprised to see such good quality and a completely free game.”
And it also makes sense that gamers who wouldn’t necessarily be able to play with their friends because of the platform don’t have that issue. One of the reasons Trifonov says the number of players across platforms is steadily growing.
But when asked why the PS4 platform was over the XBO on launch, Trifonov simply said that Sony were a lot more accommodating than Microsoft.
“The reason we are working with PS4 is because Sony was very open about this cross-platform stuff from the very beginning. Microsoft hadn’t made up their mind about a free-to-play engine, not only a cross-platform engine. It’s very hard to make it work on cross-platform on PS4, on XBO and on PC because there is conflicts of interest and we are in the middle of it so we had to choose.”
But Trifonov doesn’t believe the XBO won’t ever see the game.
“We are interested in getting as many people playing War Thunder as possible, so it’s not about us really.”
We’ll have a full video interview later on this week, so keep your eyes open. In the meantime, why not check out our War Thunder first look with Oculus which you can find right here.
