EA announces PGA Tour Golf
EA has announced a new golf title, which sees the historic tie with Tiger Woods severed.
PGA Tour Golf will feature four time Major champion Rory McIlroy and is the latest instalment of the hugely successful golfing franchise from EA, previously known as Tiger Woods PGA Golf/Tour/Masters.
McIlroy has said that he was “proud and humbled” to see his face and name on the game, adding it was a “great honour” and he was glad to be a part of it.
There hasn’t been a golf game from EA since 2013, and the offering will be a welcome addition to the current generation of consoles, we’ve yet to see an EA golf game on the latest generation consoles.
The game will employ EA’s favourite engine, Frostbite 3, to render the “stunning courses and open up the golf experience like never before,” a press release states.
We know the power of the Frostbite 3 engine from Battlefield, an incredible environment renderer.
“Frostbite 3 is really the perfect piece of technology for us to use as we create EA SPORTS PGA TOUR,” said executive producer Brent Nielsen.
“There is no better engine out there for creating complex, lifelike environments, and it has allowed us to recreate some of the world’s most beautiful courses, as well as create some new ideas of our own. Also, for the first time ever we’re offering a game that’s completely free of load times after you start your round, allowing you to move seamlessly from one green to the next tee without breaking immersion.”
And we’re keen to play with no loading times, a huge advantage and a great leap from the previous generation of golf titles.
Nielsen also states that there will be fantasy courses, allowing you to explore new paths to the hole in a crazy environment allowing you to be as imaginative as you want.
“Players are encouraged to wander off the beaten path and find new roads to success. Now that the entire course is open at all times you are as free to be as creative and imaginative as you want in your pursuit of a low score.”
We love the golf franchise and will have more as and when we get it. In the meantime you can peruse the screens below, or check out the video.
