Lucasfilm gives EA “unprecedented access"
Lucasfilm’s director of business development, Douglas Reilly has said EA and Dice have had unprecedented access to the Star Wars archive in order to create a “truly special game”.
The announcement came at the Star Wars Celebration this week in Anaheim in California, where journalists had the chance to finally see Star Wars Battlefront, the first offering from Swedish based developer Dice.
Reilly said the 10 year deal signed with EA was because Lucasfilm was excited with Dice’s vision to “create the greatest Star Wars games ever,” and the decision to give them “unprecedented access to the archives, to our teams and to Star Wars, to help them create great games and to allow fans to live out their Star Wars fantasies.”
And the game does look truly spectacular. The full first impressions article can be found here.
But it’s not just the content, Dice was also given access to Skywalker Sound.
“The [Dice] sound guys were given access to the original movie sound scores. The original recordings from the film,” said Dice design director Niklas Fegraeus. So all the in-game audio will have been used; at some point or another, in the films.
Star Wars Battlefront will be released 17 November and will be available on XBO, PS4, PC.
