Remedy boss leaves after 15 years
One of the industries best loved studios, Remedy, is to leave after 15 years at the helm.
Matias Myllyrinne will leave Remedy to take a post with hugely successful Wargaming.
Along with Oskari Hakkinen, the former head of franchise development who left only a few weeks ago to set up a gamification company for mobile apps not usually associated with games, Remedy will have lost two greatly respected people, to pastures new.
Myllyrinne was the man behind Max Payne, Alan Wake and now Quantum Break. With a little help from hugely talented writer Sam Lake, those games were a huge success, with Alan Wake being the game that Remedy were “betting the farm on” as he once told us.
Quantum Break will be the next title from the studio, with the same gritty and engaging feel as we’ve come to expect, however Myllyrinne is confident the game’s development will not be affected.
“Quantum Break will be our biggest game to date and the company has more talent and opportunities than ever. We are yet to see Remedy’s best game.”
The announcement was made on Facebook today and from his post Matias has been, as always, humble and grateful to his team, and has kept Finland at the forefront of games development, a beacon in the otherwise freezing cold!
“Remedy has been the West Point for many of the brightest game industry luminaries in Helsinki. We’ve been around for a long time and I am proud that we’ve helped people learn and develop. Our alumni have moved on to build more success stories. While the credit is theirs - I like to think that a little bit of Remedy DNA has helped make Finland the development hotspot it is today.”
We wish Matias and Oskari the best of luck.
