Halo 5 Guardians free DLC maps and free online

Halo 5: Guardians will offer 15 free DLC multiplayer maps in addition to the 20 maps that will launch with on release, according the 343 Industries.

The developer has also confirmed that gamers will not need to be subscribers to XBox Live in order to play online.

In an interview with Game Informer, 343 Industries boss Josh Holmes said the developer didn’t want to water down the online experience and split the players into “two groups”.

"When you have paid map packs and content, you divide the player base into two groups: the haves and the have-nots. The people that have the map pack can play together but the people who don't cannot.

“That to us is a real problem. So we're delivering all the maps to all players free so everybody will be able to play together. That, we feel, is really important to having a great multiplayer ecosystem."

With Holmes promising “an immense amount of content”, it makes sense to have as many people floating around the world as possible, and will allow players to play with friends without punishing them for not buying the DLC. This is a constant problem across all platforms, but this revolutionary idea might change the way DLC is delivered.

The game is due to be released October 27, we’ll have more news as it comes.
