New Super Mario Bros. 2 will offer DLC

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS will be the first Mario game to offer downloadable content.

Nintendo announced the news during todays Nintendo Direct conference.

Paid-for extra levels will be made available once the main game is finished.

Extra levels will be added to the game’s Coin Rush mode. This mode offers players three random maps to hunt for coins, and you can set challenges for friends to beat the amount of coins you collected via StreetPass.

Pricing and release information hasn’t yet been revealed.

Final Fantasy: TheatRhythm and Fire Emblem: Awakening will also offer DLC content for the 3DS.
