Nintendo: 3DS XL display won't look 'awkward'

The increased pixel-per-inch display on the 3DS XL won’t look awkward.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata wanted to address concerns that a bigger screen would mean blurrier graphics by comparing it to the last handheld they made bigger.

In an Iwata Asks interview, he said: “Many customers appear to be worried, asking questions like ‘if the screen is bigger, won’t the dots stand out?’ and ‘will the screen get blurry?’”

“The dots are indeed smaller than on the Nintendo DSi XL system. When I played [the 3DS XL] I wasn’t bothered by anything at all.”

Takashi Murakami, from Nintendo’s mechanical design group, added: “…for normal play I don’t think anyone will be able to sense anything awkward.”
