DayZ creator considered free-to-play
DayZ creator Dean Hall considered doing a free-to-play version of the zombie mod.
Over a million players have signed up to DayZ since it launched earlier this year.
Hall spoke to VideoGamer about the possibility of going free-to-play: "I think it would work. We have thought about it. There have been a lot of approaches with a lot of money. I could have made myself an absolute killing going free-to-play."
Hall said the game needed to be safe from hackers before changing to a free-to-play system.
He added: "The problem is, with free-to-play you need a very robust design. You need to be very un-hackerish and have everything locked down and working very well, and DayZ's not at that point and it's not going to be at that point for at least six months.
"That's critical, really. We have to address that. It's very important."
A standalone version of DayZ was announced earlier this month.
