Spec Ops designer: Multiplayer was needless
Spec Ops: The Line shouldn't have included multiplayer, according to lead designer Cory Davis.
The game launched last month with a focus on storytelling in the single-player campaign.
Davis told Polygon that multiplayer was, "never a focus of the development" but it was included anyway.
He said: "It was literally a check box that the financial predictions said we needed, and 2K was relentless in making sure that it happened - even at the detriment of the overall project and the perception of the game."
Davis added that the multiplayer, "sheds a negative light on all of the meaningful things we did in the single-player experience" and that, "the multiplayer game's tone is entirely different".
While the multiplayer may have been a failure Davis said he is, "proud of what we were able to achieve [with the single-player] and it was not easy".
