Square Enix has released a HD streaming games portal called Core Online.

The service lets players try games for free in HD through Google Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Playable titles so far include Hitman: Blood Money, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Mini Ninjas.

Square Enix CEO, Yoichi Wada, said: "Square Enix is at the forefront of experimentation of new business and services models in the game industry.

"Through our Core Online technology service, users can access our content easily through the browser."

The service is funded by video advertising which users can skip if they purchase individual levels or games. Game saves and achievements are stored in the cloud, while players can launch a game from any level.

Tomb Raider: Underworld and Gyromancer are set to be available on the service in the near future.
