Call of Duty strategist and face of the Modern Warfare brand, Robert Bowling, has launched his own development studio after departing from Activision's Infinity Ward.

His departure from Infinity Ward came as a surprise to all with no explanation for his leaving. Equally, Activision said he was "a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team".

His new studio, Robotoki, revealed in Game Informer, will be a self-funded affair and will partner with studios who are willing to support the model which, according to Bowling, will centre around "an environment where the creative vision holders [hold] complete control over their work and [can] guide and maintain it from concept to execution."

The plan is to "create a universe first, experiences second and game mechanics last," and to "create experiences that transcend platforms" as well as "unique to the[ir] device."

What this means is unclear, but we could see games which can be developed for cross-platform gaming, which would be interesting and a very ambitious.

Robotoki will announce a game sometime this year for release on the next generation of consoles, as well as PC and mobile devices.
