Sniper Elite 3 is "the thinking man's shooter"
Sniper Elite 3 could be called "the thinking man's shooter", according to lead designer at Rebellion Michael How.
Popular shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield are often criticised for encouraging players to fire first and think later, without much need for tactics or nous.
Rebellion is putting the onus on strategy for Sniper Elite 3, which is one of the key reasons North Africa was chosen as the setting.
"For us, it was stressing the fact we are a thinking man's shooter," How told ArabicGamers when asked about the location, "we do want the player to use the environment.
"We wanted to kind of progress forward from V2 which was, from community feedback, sometimes a bit too linear.
"We wanted to make sure that our next product was pushing the limits, expanding the environments and North Africa seemed like a natural choice as far as pushing these environments."
How claims that North Africa also gives the game much more colour, and it will be a nice change for players who want to experience something different.
"You've got this amazingly rich colour palette in that environment too with the desert," he added.
"It can be fresh for the player who's used to the streets of war-torn Europe, to be given something that's just beautiful and rich and colourful, but also has its own unique story."
